Summary:
Everyday we hear about pollution and how important it is to be environmentally friendly, but so often that’s where it ends. Through this lesson, students will understand how they can be innovators and engineers that change the environment around us one step at a time. To do this we will begin to gain an understanding of human impact related to air quality. What can we do to help improve various forms of pollution from the comfort of our homes?
Learning Goals:
Students will be able to question why some areas have higher air pollution than others
Students will examine how air quality in their home community varies over time
Students will critically examine relationships between air quality and particle density
Materials Needed:
A piece of white or clear plastic (salad plate size)
Petroleum jelly
Spreading tool or fingers
Duct tape
A wood block or brick
Blank white paper
Pen/Pencil
Notebook
